A New Nurse Needs Help
*Marcie was raised in Texas by her father and was a complete tomboy. She met and married her husband Ryan in 2003. In fact, he joined the military the same year. Stationed in FT Drum NY, the two newlyweds loved to fish in local rivers and eat their catch. Her husband, Ryan was deployed to Iraq in August of 2006. At that time Marcie moved in with Ryan’s dad, Charlie and Marcie began taking classes to become a nurse.
Marcie was a 4.0 student. When Ryan was killed in action in Iraq in April 2007 her world was rocked and her grades began to fall. Since there was only a month left in the spring semester, all her teachers got together and decided to pass her based on the grades she had prior to Ryan’s death which were all A’s. Also, having a self-described addictive personality, Marcie decided to choose something healthier to be addicted to and thus began to run. She joined a running club and was soon up to 50 miles a week and maintained that through her school years.
Marcie graduated with her BSN RN (Bachelors in Nursing). When she graduated all of her funding stopped. Because of her volunteer work at the local VA Hospital, she was going to be hired there, although she still needed to take her Nursing Board Certification for Texas. Nevertheless even on a fast track it would still take 3-4 months. Marcie asked FHAF for help supplementing her 2 part-time jobs to aid covering living expenses while taking her boards and waiting for the VA to hire her. It was our pleasure to do so.
