Facing EvictioN

By the time FHAF was notified about *Dorothy’s situation by her fallen son’s, Brett (KIA 1/7/2006 Fallujah) Marine brothers, she was less than 12 hours away from receiving an eviction notice and was in jeopardy of having her son’s belongings auctioned off because of a delinquent storage bill. Additionally, other utility bills, etc. were piling up because of Dorothy’s recent break in employment.

By that evening, 4 other Marine “brothers” that were with her son when he was KIA stated that the Gifts of Gratitude fund was their only hope to help their newly adopted “mom” from a desperate situation. They had taken up a collection between them but came up significantly short. They could hardly bear the thought that the mother of a fallen brother would soon receive an eviction notice and that the storage space keeping her son’s belongings would soon be auctioned off.

Within 24 hours, FHAF had contacted Dorothy’s landlord and the storage facility in another state; we caught up her rent, storage and utility bills. Additionally, we paid these bills for the coming month in advance. FHAF also helped Dorothy put together a new resume. Within a few weeks Dorothy had found a better job and was once again receiving a steady income.

Notes of Gratitude

"I will be forever grateful to Freedom Has A Face for your generosity. You helped at a very low time in my life. I do believe in the power of prayer. Although, I lost my son [Brett], I feel as if he is still reaching out in ways I could never imagine.  All you have done for me has been a Godsend and I will never forget. Bless you!"
              DL (mom of Brett KIA)

"JC came upon an amazing group called Freedom Has A Face. Who stepped in with no notice and responded to his email well after normal operating hours. This damn outstanding group stepped up and literally saved us and her… Only because of Freedom Has A Face stepping in and going way above and beyond… they literally eased a burden for *Dorothy [son, Brett KIA] and for all of us. This group is literally a Godsend… I don't have the words to explain. This is my simple story coming from a Marine who wishes he could trade places with Dorothy’s son, because I would in a heartbeat. "
JL (present when Brett was KIA)

"Your program has given me hope that people do care.  This was truly a team effort, yes, we reached out for help, but it was you all who grabbed our hands and pulled us through.   Please know we appreciate everything you have done for our family in 2/6.  What you did for us and *Dorothy [son, Brett KIA] will remain with us forever just as Brett does.  Thank you and God bless!  "
JC (present when Brett was KIA)

"Words can't explain the feeling I have right now. There are a lot of programs that say they will help, but you have to jump through hoops.  But this program [Freedom Has A Face] is the real deal.  This really helps all of us have hope that there are people out there who really care about us and our families. *Dorothy [son, Brett] has been through a lot and I don't know how she has managed this long, but you have brought sunshine in a dark moment.  You are now a part of our family, and will remain one of us for your help."
JC (present when Brett was KIA)

"A member of my unit reached out to your organization [Freedom Has A Face] for assistance and we could not believe the quickness and generosity. Thank you for your help with *Dorothy [son, Brett KIA]. She has given so much and deserves the best.  Freedom Has A Face is a great organization helping truly deserving people."
MC (present when Brett was KIA)

"Thanks to your organization [Freedom Has A Face] and your donors, it looks like we'll be able to help *Dorothy [son, Brett KIA] get on solid ground for the first time in a long while. I've got the name of her son, Brett, along with 5 other Marines that were killed in Iraq, tattooed on my right arm. I carry his memory with me every day. There is no greater way to honor his life and death than to help his mother like this. Gratefully yours,"
EG (present when Brett was KIA)

"I really, really appreciate ALL FHAF has done for me!!
Without your assistance, I'd be homeless. Thank you so very much!!"
